Sweet and fruity Flavour
The Dátil is very hot Capsicum Chinense variety with unknown origin. Some suggest an indentured worker brought the peppers from Minorca to St. Augustine in late 18th century.
Others posit they were brought from Cuba around 1880 by a jelly maker named S. B. Valls.
Datil peppers are cultivated throughout the United States and elsewhere, but the majority are produced in St. Augustine, Florida. This variant is similar in strength to Habaneros but have a sweeter, fruitier flavour. The level of spiciness may vary from 100,000 to 300,000 SHU. Mature pods are about 2.5-7.6 cm long and yellow-orange in colour. For a good growth plants need warm tempatures and high humidity
